Travel Journal: London, Part 1

Well then! This is long overdue. I've been back for about a month, but I got caught up with unpacking, repacking, and moving to San Francisco. On top of all of that, I had to take my computer in for repairs, and I haven't had internet in my new apartment until this morning. But enough with all of that. Here are some photos from my recent trip to London. I haven't had the chance to sort through all of them quite yet, so this will come in parts. All the photos are arranged chronologically.

I went to London with my cousin and my brother. We met up with my old college roommate, Angelli, who was studying abroad. Check out her blog here. Another one of our friends, Rebecca flew over to London from Torino to hang out. On our first day we went to Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the guards. Above is my attempt at taking a photo sans annoying crowds.

After a long friday night, we all rallied and headed to Borough Market for some brunch. The paella was tempting, but I started off by sharing a raclette with some side gherkins (mini-pickles). Then I moved on to the famed chorizo sandwich from Brindisa. It was every bit as delicious as I read. To get me through the day, we stood in line at Monmouth coffee for a cup of liquid energy.

Sunday was Columbia Road Flower Market day. It was so interesting seeing all of the vendors yelling out prices for their flowers. So many people, so many peonies, so busy. We took the time to duck into a few cute shops and also wandered by a doorstep where a lady was selling homemade doughnuts. They were amazing! The custard was thick and creamy and the dough was the perfect thickness for the amount of custard. However, these would not be the best doughnuts I had on this trip...

Monday was a shopping day. Angelli took us to Islington to peruse the boutiques and shops in the area. I made sure to stop at the shops that Cereal Mag mention in their London City Guide.

This photo was one of my first attempts at night photography. After taking my photography class last semester, I wanted to try my hand. Unfortunately I was ill prepared. After taking the bus all the way to Westminster, I realized that I left my memory card in my computer back at the flat. I went all the way home, and came back to Big Ben and was able to take two pictures before my battery died! I knew that I had to try one more time, this time with all of my equipment ready to go.

The night before Angelli left to go to back home to the States, we went back out and I attempted to take some more night photos. We walked down Waterloo Bridge to get the perfect shot, and I was extremely pleased with how they turned out!

Coming up next, I'll be posting pictures from my three days in Paris. Stay tuned, but bear with me. I just started up dental school and it is quite busy. Thanks for reading!
